Ashley Anderson is a senior in the School of Art’s Illustration Program working on her BFA degree. Most of her art is fueled by her intake of art, history, books, movies, music, and video games.
Her piece Frog Went A-Courtin’ features light colors of blue and green. The lines are smooth, but the texture has a roughness to it. The scale of the painting fairly small, however, the wood behind makes the painting pop. The wood also gives it a rustic feel.
Listening to the explanation of the piece, Anderson explained it was frogs gathered to listen to the larger frog tell a story. She said the large frog was telling the younger frogs about the time he was had gotten married to a mouse which he later got a divorce.
My experience with the piece was very calming. It was simple, but still moving. I always love when artists’ have a story behind their pieces. It just adds more than what can be seen.
